At least 9 Iraqi officials dead in hostage siege

Nine city and provincial officials were killed. They were among dozens killed when armed militants took over a government building in Iraq and held hostages this week, Interior Ministry officials told CNN Wednesday. At least two journalists, including CNN contributor Sabah al-Bazi, were among the dead when armed men assaulted and seized the building in Tikrit in northern Iraq on Tuesday (cnn.com).

Contaminated IV solution suspected in 9 patient deaths in Alabama

9 of 19 patients have been killed due to contaminated IV in Alabama. The patients who were infected with bacteria that got into their blood after they were fed intravenously have died in six Alabama hospitals, state health officials said Tuesday."This represents an example of an outbreak that does, unfortunately, occur," Dr. Don Williamson of the Alabama Department of Public Health told reporters in a conference call (cnn.com). I already have fears about going to the hospital, this is just icing in the cake.

Who knew that high heels and science could be in the same sentence. Christian Louboutin's red sole shoes are loved by many women all over the world. He recently revealed the engineering invloved with his shoes. "The heel is engineering in itself," said the sought-after designer in his Paris atelier. "This little thing that supports the human weight has to have a precise balance" (cnn.com). The materials needed to create the perfect shoe include wood lasts -- a shoemaker's mould in the shape of a human foot -- and supporting metal stems that are inserted into heels, which can measure up to 6.5 inches, to ensure that the wearer doesn't topple over (cnn.com).

Allied forces strike Gadhafi compound.

Moammer Gadhafi's compound is ruined due to being bombed by allies. The attack is prompted by a debate whether or not the Allies were trying to kill Gadhafi. U.S. Vice Adm. Bill Gortney said neither Gadhafi nor his residence had been targeted. "We are not going after Gadhafi," he told reporters at the Pentagon. Asked about reports of smoke rising from the area of the Libyan leader's palace, Gortney said, "We are not targeting his residence." (cnn.com). "He (Gadhafi) is using tanks and snipers to terrorize the city," said a man whose idenity is being protected.

Reflection

The class discussion on Wednesday went really well. I liked how Mr. Palo picked people randomly to say something. Everyone had different and great opinions. Personally, I know I should've said more, but unfortunately i didn't. The next class discussion we have, I will! I think our Administrators missed out on a good discussion.

Japan's Nuclear Crisis Turns Spotlight On U.S. Plants

The U.S. should prepare their plants for future quakes.The natural disaster that occurred in Japan can easily happen in the U.S.The nuclear reactors in the states were built to withstand earthquakes. Safety systems for the reactors should be improved near fault lines. Pills( Potassium Iodide) should be given out to people who live 20 miles or less from the plants. Most power plants are located near major populated cities. They generate 20% of the nation's power. This issue is implementing the start of homegrown energy and carbon-nuclear power is better for the planet. Some think their plants don't need to take extra precautions. They say their plants are "safe". In California the plants could withstand a earthquake magnitude of 6.5. I think their should definitely be changes in safety.

"Gadhafi faces investigation for crimes against humanity"

Moammar Gadhafi and some of his sons are facing criminal charges for crimes against humanity.
This is the first time the court will be investigatin Gadhafi while the events in Libya are going on. 
They include allegations of security forces killing unarmed protesters, forced displacement, illegal detention and airstrikes on civilians(CNN.com). Investigators will look at events in Libya from Feb. 15. Anti-Gadhafi protestors will also be held accountable for criminal activity."I think Libya is a new world. How we manage the new challenge -- that's what we will see now." (CNN.com)

"Man arrested for driving more than 3 miles in reverse"

Gurgen Guksyan was arrested for driving more than three miles in reverse. He was going 30 miles per hour.
Gurgen was charged with reckless driving.

"Father stabs baby to death"

A teenager from California stabs his 5 month old baby.
Authorities followed him and it turned into a pursuit.
Deputies chased him on foot, the teen father broke into a house.
They shot at him and he died.
