Japan's Nuclear Crisis Turns Spotlight On U.S. Plants
The U.S. should prepare their plants for future quakes. The natural disaster that occurred in Japan can easily happen in the U.S.The nuclear reactors in the states were built to withstand earthquakes. Safety systems for the reactors should be improved near fault lines. Pills( Potassium Iodide) should be given out to people who live 20 miles or less from the plants. Most power plants are located near major populated cities. They generate 20% of the nation's power. This issue is implementing the start of homegrown energy and carbon-nuclear power is better for the planet. Some think their plants don't need to take extra precautions. They say their plants are "safe". In California the plants could withstand a earthquake magnitude of 6.5. I think their should definitely be changes in safety.
